This a spectacular large Austrian oil painting of making steel--40 inches by 40 inches --add another 5 inches all around for dazzling frame-signed K. Cizek and dated 1943--artist is listed---this dramatic painting is unlike the Communist Socialist Realism poster art-it captures the high drama in a steel mill when the molten limestone. iron ore is poured into the open hearths for refinement. It probably decorated a German Steel executive office somewhere in the Third Reich. The 1943 date was the apex of German military power-from that point it all collapsed--1943 was just a few years after Anshluss-so this painting imports lots of history--painting has been relined-recently cleaned-figures in the mill give the painting a great perspective--the plant was most likely destroyed by allied bombing--how it came to the US would make a good story
